asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can make an estimate showing what would have been the approximate amount of income he would have received from the land Value tax of the Finance Act, 1931, if it had not been repealed?

Mr. COOPER

No, Sir. I would remind the hon. Member that Lord Snowden, in moving the Land Values Tax Resolution on the 4th May, 1931, explained that it would be quite impossible to give even approximately the estimate for which the hon. Member asks until considerable progress had been made with the valuation.
