HC Deb 10 April 1935 vol 300 c1286

Amendment made: In page 219, line 15, leave out "a pleader," and insert "an advocate."—[Sir S. Hoare.]

Two consequential Amendments made.

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Clause, as amended, stand part of the Bill."

10.30 p.m.

Mr. ISAAC FOOT

I should like to ask whether any representations have been made with regard to the question of the Chief Justice. The question was raised as to whether the Chief Justice could be a civil servant as well as a judge. I do not know whether the Clause has been dealt with. I hoped that Amendments would have been made. We are further on than I thought we should be.

The SOLICITOR - GENERAL (Sir Donald Somervell)

The undertaking which we gave to consider the question in regard to the Chief Justice, will also apply to the corresponding questions.

Mr. FOOT

We shall deal with it on the Report stage?

The SOLICITOR-GENERAL

Yes.

Mr. FOOT

It was from the Burma British Association that representations were made.

Clauses 376 and 377 ordered to stand part of the Bill.
