HC Deb 30 October 1934 vol 293 cc29-30
59. Mr. LEWIS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any statement to make on the subject of our relations with the Government of Austria?

Mr. EDEN

My hon. Friend will no doubt recall that on the 27th September the following joint statement was issued at Geneva on behalf of His Majesty's Government and of the French and Italian Governments: After having proceeded to a fresh examination of the Austrian situation the representatives of France, the United Kingdom and Italy have agreed in the name of their Governments to recognise that the Declaration of February 17th regarding the necessity of maintaining the independence and integrity of Austria in accordance with the treaties in force retains its full effect and will continue to inspire their common policy.
