HC Deb 30 November 1934 vol 295 cc1209-10

Considered in Committee under Standing Order No. 60.

[Sir DENNIS HERBERT in the Chair.]

Motion made, and Question proposed, That, for the purposes of any Act of the present Session to extend by a further period of two years the period during which the powers of the Commissioners appointed under the Educational Endowments (Scotland) Act, 1928, as amended by the Educational Endowments (Scotland) Act, 1931, may be exercised, and to empower the Scottish Education Department to disapprove schemes submitted to them under the said Acts and to frame amended schemes and for purposes connected therewith, it is expedient to authorise the payment out of moneys provided by Parliament of such sums as may be necessary to remunerate the Assistant Commissioners and the secretary and other officers of the Commissioners, and to defray the expenses incurred by the Commissioners during the aforesaid extended period."—(King's recommendation signified).—[Mr. Skelton.]

2.21 p.m.

Mr. SKELTON

I do not think that I need detain the Committee at any length on the financial part of the Bill. The Resolution continues the sum previously allocated for the work of the Commission each year, namely, £3,500, which has never been subjected to any criticism, and which we think is the necessary amount to enable them to continue their work.

Question put, and agreed to.

Resolution to be reported upon Monday next.

The remaining Orders were read, and postponed.

Whereupon Mr. SPEAKER adjourned the House, without Question put, pursuant to Standing Order No. 2.

Adjourned at Twenty-four Minutes after Two o'Clock until Monday next, 3rd December.
