HC Deb 29 November 1934 vol 295 c1006
43. Mr. KIRKWOOD

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if only British steel is used in the construction of the hull and armaments of the naval vessels under construction by, or on order from, Clyde shipbuilding firms; and is there any clause in the Admiralty contract specifying the use of British steel only?

The FIRST LORD of the ADMIRALTY (Sir Bolton Eyres Monsell)

Yes, Sir. A clause is included in the Admiralty contracts requiring all articles of steel to be of British manufacture.
