§ 53. Mr. LLEWELLYN-JONESasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the unsafe condition of the platform at the Flint Railway Station and that repeated appeals have been made to the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company to execute the necessary works to render the platform safe; and whether, having regard to the failure of the company to carry out these works, he can see his way to intervene so that the necessary alterations can be undertaken without delay?
§ Mr. HORE-BELISHAI was not aware that any representations with regard to the condition of the platform at Flint Railway Station had recently been made to the company, and I have no power to require the company to carry out the proposed works.
§ Mr. LLEWELLYN-JONESIs not the hon. Member aware that on more than one occasion three or four years ago the question was raised in the House of Commons and that the then Minister of Transport promised to do what he could to see that the disgraceful condition of this platform was remedied; and will he take steps to bring the matter to the notice of the company?
§ Mr. H0RE-BELISHAI sympathise with my hon. Friend, but as I have informed him, I have no power to require the company to carry out the proposed 668 works. If I can be of any assistance to the hon. Gentleman, I shall be only too happy to assist him.
§ Mr. LLEWELLYN-JONESWill the hon. Member be good enough to approach the company and use his influence with them, having regard to the fact that the platform is a source of danger to aged persons like myself and others?
