HC Deb 26 November 1934 vol 295 c492
28. Miss WARD

asked the Minister of Health how many cities, county councils, and county boroughs have included in their public assistance committees members other than members of the council under paragraph (i) of Sub-section (b) of Section 6 of the Local Government Act, 1929?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

In 46 counties and 52 county boroughs (which include cities) the administrative scheme provides for the inclusion in the public assistance committees of members other than members of the council.

Miss WARD

Would the hon. Gentleman see that the law is carried out in respect of other places, because it raises certain difficulties?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

The power in the Act of 1929 is only an optional one.
