§ 23. Mr. MAXTON (forasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether any decreases in rent have taken place on Glasgow corporation houses; if so, how many and the amount of the reductions; and what applications have been made by Glasgow corporation to reduce rents and at what dates?
§ Mr. SKELTONThe reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. Decreases in rent have taken place in two State-assisted schemes involving 2,182 houses, the amount of the aggregate rent deductions being £6,345 per annum. Two applications for reduction in the rents of State-assisted houses have been made to the Department of Health by the Cor- 245 poration of Glasgow—one on the 28th May, 1921, and the other on the 26th October, 1934.
§ 24. Mr. MAXTON forasked the Secretary of State for Scotland the number of houses built for Glasgow corporation by direct labour since November, 1933, up to the latest date and the number of houses under order?
§ Mr. SKELTONTenders submitted by the Corporation of Glasgow to the Department of Health show that no State assisted houses have been built in the City wholly by direct labour since November, 1933, and no houses at present under order are to be erected by direct labour. In one development, however, part of the painter work and in another the joiner work is being carried out by direct labour. In two other developments the question of carrying out the plaster work by direct labour is under consideration.
