§ 26. Mr. WHITE (for Mr. MALLALIEU)asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the quantity of spirits released for methylation for the production of power alcohol in the years 1932 and 1933, respectively, or for such periods in those years for which figures are available; and whether it is proposed that these spirits should now be made subject to taxation?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINWith regard to the first part of the question, the quantities of spirits used in the manufacture of power methylated spirits are shown each quarter in Part VI of the Monthly Accounts of Trade and Navigation; the figures for which the hon. Member asks will be found in the issue for January, 1934. With regard to the second part of the question, the matter is kept under careful observation, but so far I have not felt that action is called for.
