HC Deb 08 November 1934 vol 293 c1247
3. Mr. LAMBERT

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will introduce legislation to bring milk production under the Trade Boards Act, and so enable milk producers to receive the same fixed weekly remuneration as is guaranteed to the milk distributors?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

I see no good reason for transferring a particular class of farm workers from the scope of the Agricultural Wages (Regulation) Act, to that of the Trade Boards Acts.

Mr. LAMBERT

Does my right hon. Friend regard the distribution of milk as a very much more intelligent occupation than the care of cows, for which a man is paid only 32s. a week?

Mr. STANLEY

I am afraid I cannot separate the functions of caring for cows from the ordinary run of agricultural duties which are considered by the Agricultural Wages Boards.
