HC Deb 08 November 1934 vol 293 cc1253-4
34. Mr. DOBBIE

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, having regard to the high rates of interest being paid by local authorities on many of the loans made since 1918 for housing purposes, the Government will now consider legislation to effect a general reduction to the present low market rate of the rates of interest on all existing housing loans, and so enable the local authorities to make substantial reductions in the rents of council houses?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Duff Cooper)

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given on the 5th July last to the hon. Member for Hemsworth (Mr. G. Griffiths), of which I am sending him a copy.
