HC Deb 08 November 1934 vol 293 c1270
52. Mr. McGOVERN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether inquiries have been made by the Glasgow police into the visit of two persons who proposed to the manager of a leading Glasgow firm, namely, the Albion Motor and Engineering Company, that they were empowered to act for certain members of the Glasgow Corporation Transport Committee and asked him what sum he was prepared to pay in order that he should secure the building of 110 new omnibuses for Glasgow Corporation; and if the identity of these persons can be disclosed?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Mr. Skelton)

The answer to the first part of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative, and to the second part thereof in the negative. The whole matter is at present in the hands of the Procurator-Fiscal.

Mr. McGOVERN

Could the hon. Gentleman inform me if the authorities have power to compel an individual to divulge names; and, if so, will he see that that pressure is applied if necessary

Mr. SKELTON

I should require notice of that question.
