HC Deb 08 November 1934 vol 293 c1256
25. Mr. DORAN

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to the failure of the Croydon Corporation to deal with the foul smells permeating the districts of West Croydon, Beddington, Mitcham, and Thornton Heath, presumably emanating from the Beddington sewage works; and whether he will take steps to make the corporation carry out its obligations in this matter?

Sir H. YOUNG

I am aware that complaints have been made. The Croydon Corporation, after consultation with my Department, are taking the necessary steps to deal with the matter.

Mr. DORAN

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the fact that Croydon Corporation have been fiddling with this matter for three years and have done nothing in that connection at all, and in view of the fact that I am a resident in the district and live in that odoriferous atmosphere, may I ask him if he does not think that something ought to be done to stop it?

Sir H. YOUNG

I am aware of the situation, and my hon. Friend will notice that the Croydon Corporation, after consultation with my Department. are taking the necessary steps to deal with the matter.
