HC Deb 07 November 1934 vol 293 c1151

9.22 p.m.

Sir J. GILMOUR

I beg to move, in page 21, line 26, at the end, to insert: () In the case of an Art Union constituted under a deed or other instrument, not being a charter, the power of annulment referred to in the foregoing subsection may be exercised also by the President of the Board of Trade or, in his absence, by a Secretary of State, if, in the opinion of the President or Secretary of State, as the case may be, it is expedient. having regard to the circumstances, that immediate action be taken in the matter. This Amendment relates to the position of the Board of Trade whose duty it is to regularise the terms on which Art Unions conduct their draws and to withdraw the authorisation if the Art Union is not being properly conducted. The Amendment is to enable that to be done more expeditiously.

Amendment agreed to.
