HC Deb 31 May 1934 vol 290 cc349-50
34. Mr. WHITE

asked the Postmaster-General whether it is his intention to use the 24-hour clock in connection with the general work of the Post Office, in view of the experience of the British Broadcasting Corporation since their adoption of this system?

Sir K. WOOD

I understand that the experiment is still proceeding, and I have not therefore come to any decision on the matter.

Mr. WHITE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the experiment has brought to light the fact that a great number of people are opposed to it?

Sir K. WOOD

I am aware that some differences have been expressed.

Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTE

Is it not a grave abuse of the British Broad- casting Corporation's privileges to carry on this experiment?

Sir K. WOOD

I do not regard it otherwise than as an experiment.

Major JESSON

Is it not rather ridiculous to find the British Broadcasting Corporation announcer saying that something will happen at 19 o'clock when your own timepiece is chiming seven?
