HC Deb 31 May 1934 vol 290 c346
26. Mr. LENNOX-BOYD

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will state the acreage of onions in Bedfordshire in 1920 and in 1933, and the imports of onions from the Netherlands in 1920 and in 1933?

The MINISTER of AGRICUTURE (Mr. Elliot)

The acreage returned in June as under onions in Bedfordshire in 1920 was 1,275 acres, and in 1933 281 acres. Imports of onions from the Netherlands in these two years were 1,209,264 bushels and 3,713,047 bushels respectively.

Mr. LENNOX-BOYD

Will the right hon. Gentleman take steps in the forthcoming treaty with Holland to make sure that nothing is done to prejudice the revival of that industry?

Mr. ELLIOT

I will take note of my hon. Friend's desire.

Mr. CHARLES WILLIAMS

Will my right hon. Friend also take steps seriously to curtail the very heavy increase of Dutch products coming into this country?
