§ 9. Mr. HALL-CAINEasked the Home Secretary the number and nature of accidents in which police motor-cars or cycles have been involved in the last year in the Metropolitan Police area?
§ Mr. HACKINGThe records kept of accidents include every case of damage, however slight, to a police car, and during the 12 months ended 31st March, 1934, there were 874 cases in which the damage was so trifling that no question of a claim arose. In addition, there were 168 more serious cases in which payments were made or recovered. One hundred and one cases involved personal injury. Two of them were fatal, but the police driver was exonerated from blame in both.
§ Mr. CRAVEN-ELLISWhat is the per-centage of accidents as compared with the number of cars held by the Department?
§ Mr. HACKINGPerhaps my hon. Friend will work it out for himself; there are about 600 cars.
