HC Deb 30 May 1934 vol 290 cc157-8
1. Sir CHARLES CAYZER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can make any statement as to the decisions come to by the Council of the League of Nations for the holding of the Saar Plebiscite and for maintaining the authority of the Saar Commission?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald)

On the 19th May the Council of the League decided to adjourn its consideration of the preparatory measures in view of the Saar Plebiscite to its next Extraordinary Session, since the report of the Committee of Three appointed by it in January to consider the matter and to make recommendations was not yet ready. An Extraordinary Session of the Council opened at Geneva to-day and I am not yet in a position to make any statement on this subject.

5. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will state the present position in the Saar territory?

The PRIME MINISTER

The purpose of the hon. Member's question is not very clear, but if he has any specific points upon which he desires information I should be glad to supply it if he would put a question down.
