HC Deb 17 May 1934 vol 289 cc1947-8
10. Mr. GROVES

asked the Home Secretary whether it is proposed to register under the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1876, for the performance therein of experiments upon living animals, the new Birmingham medical school which is to be built as part of the hospital centre scheme?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Douglas Hacking)

If the hon. Member's question relates to the new medical school buildings of the University of Birmingham which are being erected at Edgbaston, I am informed that the "University Medical and Scientific Departments, Edgbaston, Birmingham," are already registered for the performance therein of experiments on living animals. My right hon. Friend has not yet received any communication from the university authorities as to the inclusion of the new medical school buildings in the registered premises. When my right hon. Friend answered a question of the hon. Member on the 2nd instant, he assumed that the question related to the Birmingham General Hospital.
