HC Deb 17 May 1934 vol 289 c1922
14. Mr. MORGAN JONES

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that Frank Meyer, the student expelled from the London School of Economics, is still studying at the Anthropological Institute and the British Museum; and whether, therefore, as a bona fide student he may be afforded the same privileges as heretofore?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave on the 10th instant to my hon. Friend the Member for St. Marylebone (Captain Cunningham-Reid). Mr. Meyer has permission to remain in this country until 31st instant, and I propose to await the decision of the governors of the school before considering the matter further.

Mr. JONES

As Mr. Meyer is at this moment conducting research, with a view to securing a degree, may I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether he will not reconsider that aspect of the case land allow him to remain here in order to complete his studies for his degree?

Sir J. GILMOUR

indicated dissent.

Captain CUNNINGHAM-REID

Is it not the fact that, if an Englishman had conducted himself in America in the same way as Mr. Meyer has conducted himself here, he would have been asked to leave immediately?
