HC Deb 16 May 1934 vol 289 c1744
6. Mr. THORNE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will issue a White Paper in connection with the conversations on disarmament he has recently had with General von Ribbentrop?

Mr. BALDWIN

No, Sir. The interview with Herr von Ribbentrop did not add anything of importance to what has already been published.

Mr. THORNE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that in consequence of these private negotiations and conversations which go on between different Ministers there is a good deal of suspicion aroused in other countries unless some information is published?

Mr. BALDWIN

I am not the Secretary of State and so I can hardly say, but if every time anyone had a private conversation it was published I do not think it would do any good at all.

Mr. THORNE

But there must be a reason for these private conversations.
