HC Deb 15 May 1934 vol 289 cc1605-6
29. Captain MACDONALD

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he can now make any further statement as to whether a decision with regard to the Congo Basin treaties will be reached at an early date, in order to clear up the position with regard to the ability of the East African Dependencies to impose a limitation on foreign imports into their territories?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I cannot at present add to the answer given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies to the hon. and gallant Member for Accrington (Major Procter) on 9th May.

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

Has any consideration been given to the possibility of assembling the signatory Powers again, now that the 10 years' period mentioned in the Treaty of St. Germain-en-Laye has elapsed?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The whole matter is receiving very close attention at the present moment.
