HC Deb 01 May 1934 vol 289 c149
67. Mr. H. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether the scheme for the voluntary restriction of the import of condensed milk will be worked on a monthly, quarterly, or an annual basis; and whether the restrictions will apply jointly or separately to condensed whole milk and milk powder?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

I have been asked to reply. The regulation of imports of condensed whole milk as from the 1st April is being arranged on a monthly basis. Imports of that product and of milk powder are being regulated separately.

68. Mr. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Agriculture if his attention has been drawn to the recent heavy fall in the price of skimmed condensed milk; and, under these circumstances, what further steps he proposes to take to deal with this new danger to our dairying industry?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

Prices of imported condensed skimmed milk have recently declined, but prices of the home product are being maintained. Imports are at present regulated quantitatively by voluntary arrangements with exporting countries, and the market situation is being kept under close review in that connection.
