HC Deb 21 March 1934 vol 287 c1203
27. Rear-Admiral Sir MURRAY SUETER

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether, if he decides that the main fabric of St. John's Lodge, Regent's Park, is unsuitable for museum purposes, he will consider using it for storing non-exhibits from the British Museum or, alternatively, whether he could, as an economy, transfer the Charity Commission to St. John's Lodge from the residential premises in Ryder Street, St. James's?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

I understand that the "non-exhibits" at the British Museum, which are frequently used by students, could not be removed without the passing of new legislation for that purpose. Owing to the high cost of adaptation and the inadequacy of the accommodation, the proposal to transfer the Charity Commission to St. John's Lodge is not one which it is possible to entertain.
