HC Deb 19 March 1934 vol 287 c855
34. Mr. MACLAY

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the large potential demand for transatlantic telephony, he can hold out any prospect of the rates being reduced in the near future?

Sir K. WOOD

The possibility of reducing the rates in the transatlantic telephone service is considered from time to time, in consultation with our partners in the service, but I am unable to hold out any immediate prospect of a reduction.

Mr. MACLAY

Will the right hon. Gentleman look on the matter as one of considerable importance in view of the increased trade that might come about if ordinary business firms were able to speak daily across the Atlantic?

Sir K. WOOD

I will have regard to that.
