HC Deb 08 March 1934 vol 286 c1992
17. Mr. JOEL

asked the Minister of Health whether, to facilitate the reconditioning of old-fashioned houses, he will suggest to local authorities the possibility of converting two unsatisfactory houses into one habitable dwelling, seeing that this policy would improve dwellings, minimise public outlay, and enable available funds to be expended in other housing directions?

Sir H. YOUNG

The conversion of two houses into one is undoubtedly advantageous in suitable cases, but it is seldom practicable unless both houses are in the same ownership and care must be taken not to reduce unnecessarily the available housing accommodation. I do not think it is necessary to bring the matter specially to the attention of local authorities; my hon. Friend's question will be of assistance.
