HC Deb 05 March 1934 vol 286 c1514
4. Mr. DAVID GRENFELL

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he has been in communication with the Government of Bengal regarding the legislation now brought forward to give permanent form to the Bengal ordinances; and whether he will withhold his approval from the extension of the death penalty proposed in the new Bill?

Mr. BUTLER

This Bill was introduced in the Bengal Council with the previous sanction of the Governor-General and with my right hon. Friend's approval. It was referred to a Select Committee on 1st February, but I have not yet received information of its further progress. Obviously, I can make no statement of any kind at this stage.
