HC Deb 01 March 1934 vol 286 c1243
3. Mr. MANDER

asked the Minister of Labour the present position of his correspondence with the representatives of employers and employed on the subject of the introduction of the 40-hour week in industry in this country?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Sir Henry Betterton)

The suggestions made by the National Confederation of Employers' Organisations and by the Trades Union Congress General Council as to the reply to be made by His Majesty's Government to the Questionnaire issued by the International Labour Office on the question of the 40-hour week have been received and are being considered in that connection. I also hope to arrange further consultation with both these bodies.

Mr. MANDER

Can my right hon. Friend say when he expects to come to any definite formulation of policy on the subject?

Sir H. BETTERTON

A reply to Geneva will, I hope, be sent at an early date.
