HC Deb 27 June 1934 vol 291 c1121
30. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the promised Bill dealing with the presence of police at public meetings, he will make inquiries as to the part taken by the police in other countries in work of a similar character and whether it has been successful and popular?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir John Gilmour)

The question is under consideration whether additional powers are necessary or desirable to enable the police to maintain order at public meetings held on private premises, but I have not promised to introduce a Bill on this subject. I do not think that the experience of foreign countries is likely to be of much assistance in the quite different traditions and conditions of this country.
