HC Deb 25 June 1934 vol 291 c796
48. Mr. LECKIE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can give the House the result of his inquiries into the threatened interference with the level of the Sea of Galilee by the new electricity works now in progress on the River Jordan?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister)

Under the concession granted to the Palestine Electric Corporation in 1926, the Company was given the right to dam the water of Lake Tiberias to a maximum level and to draw off the water to a minimum level as may be agreed upon between the High Commissioner for Palestine and the Company. There has been a considerable fall in the level of the lake this year, but I understand from the Company that this is almost entirely due to natural causes.
