HC Deb 21 June 1934 vol 291 c529
16. Sir REGINALD BLAKER

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether, in view of the fact that the temporary cut in teachers' salaries imposed during the emergency involves a consequential reduction in the pension allowances of any teacher whose retirement takes place at any time when the calculation of his average salary is affected by the cut, the board are prepared to consider the introduction of a short Measure in relief of these teachers who have received or otherwise will receive pension allowances on a reduced scale?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Ramsbotham)

In response to various representations my Noble Friend is examining the difficult and complicated issues involved, but he is not yet in a position to make any statement on the subject.

Sir R. BLAKER

Can the hon. Member give an assurance that it is not the intention of the Government to allow any portion of these cuts to be stabilised in pensions?

Mr. RAMSBOTHAM

I can only say that the matter is very difficult, and I cannot make any statement on that subject.
