HC Deb 21 June 1934 vol 291 cc549-50
64. Mr. SUMMERSBY

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the inadequacy of the road communication between Haifa and Tel-Aviv, Palestine; and whether, in view of the opening of the new harbour at the former place and the rapid increase of the population of the latter, consideration will be given to improving such communication at an early date?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister)

The report of the local committee, to which I referred yesterday in my reply to the hon. Member for Whitechapel and St. George's (Mr. Janner), includes a recommendation for the construction of a road between Jaffa and Haifa. As I said yesterday, the recommendations of the committee will require most careful consideration, and I am at present awaiting an expression of the High Commissioner's views.
