HC Deb 19 June 1934 vol 291 c173
48. Mr. SALT

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the approximate percentage of the male members of His Majesty's Civil Service who were of military age in 1914 to 1918 (17¼ to 51 years) who served in His Majesty's Forces during the War and are still serving in His Majesty's Civil Service?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Hore-Belisha)

It is estimated that of the total male non industrial staff of the regular Civil Service on 1st August, 1914, excluding men over military age and men unfit for military service, about 77 per cent. were released to His Majesty's Forces. I regret that the further information asked for is not available.
