HC Deb 19 June 1934 vol 291 c200
43. Mr. OSWALD LEWIS

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is yet in a position to make an announcement with regard to the ratification by this country of the convention concluded at the International Conference in November last for the protection of the fauna and flora of Africa?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister)

I regret that I am not yet in a position to make an announcement in regard to the ratification of this Convention.

Mr. LEWIS

Does my right hon. Friend appreciate how greatly a strong lead from this country would improve the chances of co-operation between the various countries concerned in this matter?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

Yes, and we gave a very strong lead at the Conference; indeed, we were largely responsibl for its success; but a large number of colonies are concerned, and we want to be perfectly certain that in this respect they will work in common.
