HC Deb 14 June 1934 vol 290 c1871
8. Mr. JOHN WALLACE

asked the Home Secretary what applications he has received from German nationals interested in the textile and making-up trades for permission to take up residence in this country with the view of establishing works for manufacturing purposes; and whether, before such applications are granted, he will bear in mind the number of vacant factories in Dunfermline suitable for textile manufacture?

Sir J. GILMOUR

During the current year I have received approximately 34 applications from German nationals who wish to establish making-up factories in this country and none from German nationals who wish to establish textile factories. The second part of the question does not therefore arise, but in any case I cannot undertake to advise as to the localities suitable for the establishment of particular trades.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

How is it that these firms cannot find empty factories in Dunfermline?
