HC Deb 14 June 1934 vol 290 cc1874-5
12. Mr. THORNE

asked the Home Secretary whether a decision has yet been reached with regard to closing down His Majesty's prison at Dartmoor; and whether the prison is to be pulled down, and, if so, for what purpose the site is to be used?

Sir J. GILMOUR

There is no present intention of closing Dartmoor Prison.

Mr. THORNE

Do we understand that the reports which appeared in the papers are incorrect and that the right hon. Gentleman's Department have no intention of doing this?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I have just said that we have no such intention. I am not responsible for what appears in the Press.
