HC Deb 07 June 1934 vol 290 c1077
48. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the First Commissioner of Works if he will state the present position in regard to the Earl Haig memorial statue; whether he is satisfied with the progress made; and when it is anticipated the statue will be completed and erected?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

The full size model in clay is nearly completed, and I have no reason to be dissatisfied with the progress made. My hon. and gallant Friend will realise that in matters of this kind it is not always possible to adhere rigidly to a pre-arranged programme. Consequently, I am not in a position at present to say when the monument will be erected.

Sir WILLIAM DAVISON

May I ask whether the llama-like neck of the charger in the original sketch, to which exception was taken by many people, has been reduced, so that the neck of the horse will be more in character with that of an ordinary charger?
