asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what has been the respective German and British immigration into Tanganyika territory during each of the past five years; and what steps are being taken to ensure that British immigration into that territory is maintained?

The total numbers of British and German immigrants (excluding officials and visitors) for the five years 1929 to 1933 were: British, 1,470; Germans, 1,226. I will circulate figures for the separate years with the OFFICIAL REPORT. The Mandatory Government is not in a position to afford special encouragement to immigrants of any particular nationality.
