HC Deb 06 June 1934 vol 290 c935
19. Sir G. HAMILTON (for

Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE) asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the unrest amongst the Jewish population in Palestine with regard to the limitation of Jewish immigration to that mandated territory, he will arrange for an impartial inquiry as to whether immigration certificates are at present being granted up to the full absorptive capacity of that country?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

I am sure it will be generally agreed that the absorptive capacity of Palestine can best be judged periodically by the High Commissioner, who is continuously responsible for the administration of the territory. I have every confidence in the judgment of the present High Commissioner, and I see no justification for such an inquiry as my hon. Friend suggests.
