§ 45. Major-General Sir ALFRED KNOXasked the Prime Minister when it is expected that the Committee of Privileges will present its report on the matter it has lately been considering?
§ The PRIME MINISTERThe committee will meet again on Wednesday and 570 I anticipate that it will then settle the date of its report.
§ Sir A. KNOXIn view of the long period, over a month, that the Committee has taken to consider its report, will the right hon. Gentleman, when the report is published, arrange to give the House adequate time to consider it before it proceeds to a debate; in other words, will he give a week between the publication of the report and debate in this House?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI can make no promise of that nature. The House will have an early opportunity of considering the report, but I think the hon. and gallant Member is wrong in saying that the Committee has taken a month to consider its report. He will remember that a vacation took place in the sittings of the House.
§ Sir A. KNOXWill the right hon. Gentleman give more than one day between the publication of the report and debate in this House so as to allow hon. Members to become familiar with the terms of the report?
§ The PRIME MINISTERCertain questions have to be taken into account in settling the date of the debate, but, if the hon. and gallant Member will communicate through the usual channels, I am sure they will do their best not only to accommodate him but the whole House.
