HC Deb 30 July 1934 vol 292 c2278
69. Mr. CHORLTON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the difficulties experienced by the Hollins Mill Company, Limited, Manchester, in their sales of selvyt cloth in the United States of America through certain technical changes in the tariff and the method of valuation adopted; whether he is aware that the duty is being assessed on the assumption that the price for large quantities is the same as that for small quantities; and whether he is prepared to make representations to the Government of the United States of America, in order to secure for the Hollins Mill Company, Limited, equitable treatment of their products on entering the United States of America?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

All possible steps have been taken to assist this company in the matter referred to, and, after consultation with the company's agent in New York, the conclusion has been reached that there is no further action which can usefully be taken on their behalf. It is, however, open to the company, through its agent or consignee, to appeal to the United States Customs Court for re-appraisement.
