HC Deb 30 July 1934 vol 292 cc2291-2
107. Mr. RANKIN

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, in view of the fact that the alternative to any fine, however large, for smuggling, is merely six months' imprisonment, he will consider recommending a change in the law to make the alternative punishment more severe?

Mr. COOPER

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given on this subject to the hon. Member for East Fife (Mr. H. Stewart) on 5th July.
