§ 27. Mr. MANDERasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware of the formation of a directorate in Memel representative of only four members of the Landtag, out of a, total 2264 of 29; and whether, in view of the fact that this is contrary to Article 17 of the Statute of Memel, to which Great Britain is a party, he will consider the advisability of making suitable representations?
§ Mr. EDENArticle 17 of the Statute provides that the directorate must enjoy the confidence of the Chamber of Representatives and shall resign if the chamber refuses its confidence. I have not yet heard the result of the directorate's first meeting with the Landtag.
§ Mr. MANDERWill the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind the strong feeling existing at Memel on the question and keep a careful watch on the situation?
§ Mr. H. WILLIAMSMay we have an assurance that we are not going to undertake a war in this connection?
