§ Mr. SHAKESPEAREThe only available figures are those of the Census of 1931, when the number of gainfully occupied persons of 14 years of age and over, excluding persons out of work, in Lancashire county and the associated county boroughs was 2,153,658, representing 42.7 per cent. of the total enumerated population of those areas.
