HC Deb 30 July 1934 vol 292 c2284
82. Sir MURDOCH MacDONALD

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware that the public pier at Broadford is to be closed on the 31st instant owing to its dangerous condition; what action, if any, he proposes to take to assist the trustees to repair the structure; what arrangements are to be made for passengers and merchandise in the meantime; and whether the closing of the pier will alter the programme of Messrs. MacBrayne's steamer services?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Mr. Skelton)

With regard to the first part of the question, last Monday my right hon. Friend received a telegram from the trustees of Broadford Harbour intimating that they had resolved to close the pier from tomorrow. As regards the last three parts of the question, he has instructed an officer of the Department of Agriculture for Scotland to visit Broadford and report urgently on the situation.
