HC Deb 19 July 1934 vol 292 cc1249-50
21. Mr. GORDON MACDONALD

asked the Minister of Health whether he has considered the communications sent from urban district councils calling his attention to the failure of private enterprise to provide an adequate supply of homes under the Housing (Financial Provisions) Act, 1933, to be let at rents payable by the working class; and, in view of the widespread desire that the Government should introduce such financial assistance as will enable local authorities to build this type of house, what action he intends to take?

The MINISTER of HEALTH (Sir Hilton Young)

I have received and considered certain communications of the kind described by the hon. Member in the question. As regards the remainder of the question I would refer the hon. Member to my observations in the course of the recent Debate upon the Estimates of my Department.

Mr. MACD0NALD

In any further legislation dealing with this matter, will the Minister of Health bear in mind the fact that many miners are earning less than 5s. per day?

Sir H. YOUNG

The hon. Member will find these matters considered when the legislation is introduced.
