HC Deb 18 July 1934 vol 292 c1095
27. Sir ROBERT HAMILTON (for Mr. MANDER)

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether, in view of the recent reduction of tariffs by the New Zealand Government on British goods, he will take the opportunity of negotiating for a free exchange of commodities between this country and New Zealand?

The SECRETARY of STATE for DOMINION AFFAIRS (Mr. J. H. Thomas)

The Government are sensible of the advantages which, as they hope, will arise from the reduction of tariffs on imports from this country which was recently announced in New Zealand, and very much appreciate the spirit of cooperation which they indicate. They do not feel, however, that the general considerations bearing on this question, which I put before the House in the course of the Debate on 7th May, are affected by these changes.

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether the full details will be published? Mr. THOMAS: I think the usual practice will be followed.
