§ My Noble Friend regrets that it is not possible to give separately the cost of administration of technical schools 929 and colleges in England and Wales, since in the returns furnished by local education authorities administration is not differentiated from corresponding expenditure on other forms of higher education. Excluding this item the total cost of technical institutions, including evening institutes and art schools, during each of the last five years has been as follows:—

§ Mr. RAMSBOTHAMThe number of recognised technical institutions in the present school year is 5,328. This includes, in addition to technical colleges and schools, evening institutes in which technical instruction may be given, and art schools. The information available is not sufficiently complete to enable an answer to be given to the second part of the question.
