HC Deb 16 July 1934 vol 292 cc778-9
42. Mr. A. SOMERVILLE

asked the. Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether the actuarial inquiry provided for in the Teachers (Superannuation) Act, 1925, Section 15 (1), has been carried out; and, if this has been done, whether it has been found that the contributions payable under the Act should be revised?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Ramsbotham)

My Noble Friend is advised by the Government Actuary that the actuarial inquiry in question is now being proceeded with, and he hopes that it will be completed towards the end of this year. In accordance with the provisions of Section 15 of the Teachers (Superannuation) Act, 1925, the report will be laid before Parliament.

Mr. SOMERVILLE

May I ask my hon. -Friend whether, in view of the fact that the provision was put into the Act in order to ascertain whether pension contributions are equitable or not, he will do his best to expedite the inquiry?

Mr. RAMSBOTHAM

I think that the report of the inquiry will be forthcoming towards the end of the year, and that is the earliest we can expect it.
