HC Deb 16 July 1934 vol 292 cc776-7
35. Captain SOTHERON-ESTCOURT (for Sir P. HURD)

asked the Minister of Health what progress has been made in the provision of playing fields in rural areas; and what use is being made of the increased provincial facilities now available?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

In the five years ended March, 1934, nearly £262,000 was sanctioned for the purchase and lay-out of lands for recreation in rural areas. My right hon. Friend is aware also that much other land has been provided in rural areas for recreation by gift or otherwise. He regrets that he has not statistics of the use made of available facilities.
